Was the U.S. Intelligence Community Aware of Attempts by Major Nidal Hasan to Contact al Qaeda?

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
I don’t think we can assume that the ball was dropped just yet – there’s certainly more to this case. However, there is a disturbing pattern to these revelations.
