Final Update 9:50 PM CST:
Sadly, the confusion has passed but the news is still bad:

Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives, died Wednesday after suffering brain hemorrhaging caused by an aneurysm, medical officials said.

Update:
There are conflicting reports of her status. CNN has changed course and now says she remains in critical condition while CBS claims that she has passed on:

Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio) has died in a Cleveland hospital.

Tubbs Jones, 58, was hospitalized Tuesday night after police pulled over her car and found her unconscious behind the wheel.

A Huron Hospital spokeswoman said Tubbs Jones had suffered an aneurysm that caused her to lose consciousness.

As news of Tubbs Jones’ hospitalization – and several premature reports of her death – spread across Capitol Hill Wednesday, the congresswoman’s staffers gathered in a closed-door meeting.

AP has killed their story announcing her death as well.

Initial Post:

She suffered an aneurysm Tuesday which unfortunately proved to be fatal:

According to a spokesperson with the Cleveland Heights Police Department, approximately 9:00 pm on Tuesday a Cleveland Heights Police Officer observed Tubbs Jones car traveling eastbound on Mayfield Road, weaving from side to side. At Lee Road the car turned left and the officer followed. The car slid off the road into a grassy area near the intersection of Lee Road and Monticello Boulevard.

Police tell Fox 8′s Todd Meany that the congresswoman was transported to Huron Hospital in East Cleveland after what they are describing as a “one-car accident.”

A statement from Tubbs Jones’ office indicated that Tuesday’s condition followed a full day of activity, including planning for an upcoming forum on electoral reform, scheduled for September 4, 2008 at Cleveland State University. Congresswoman Tubbs Jones was scheduled to travel to Denver on August 24, 2008 to attend the Democratic National Convention as a superdelegate.
