Democratic National Convention: Protester Discusssions on the Web Concern Denver Police

Anarchists, animal rights folks, and the usual cast of progressive weirdos are talking tough ahead of the DNC:

On one Web site, Whitman said, a local protest group is urging “anarchists and anti-authoritarians” to engage in a broad range of tactics to disrupt fund-raising events and stop delegates from getting to the Pepsi Center to vote.

Their targets include hotels, street intersections and transportation systems, he said.

“All tactics are and would be encouraged,” the chief said, reading material that was found online.

Council members passed the proposal out of committee, but Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the Re-create 68 Alliance protest group, said the city is overreacting.

The Recreate 68 website has a “Statement of Non-Violence” but it includes a huge loophole:

We are committed to resisting and overturning the system of violence inflicted daily on the people of this country and the world, and against the natural environment, by political and corporate power in the pursuit of profit. We are resolved that our group will not instigate violence against human beings as a means to end this system of violence and injustice. However, we recognize the right of the people to self-defense and community defense.

Their commitment to overturning the government, which they refer to as a system of violence, and claim to some undefined right of “community defense” isn’t particularly reassuring is it?
