Yes, it is an historic day. I’m no fan of Speaker Pelosi but it is a milestone. Tim Edwards at Misunderstimation comments:
The next couple of years are going to represent significant change in the political landscape of this country. The first woman is being elected Speaker and “minority” candidates are now in serious consideration for the presidency. It truly seems that gender and race are being over-looked and we are evaluating the person and their positions. Perhaps I’m just being optimistic, but politics aside, this is a fabulous time for democracy.
A democracy truly open to all benefits all. But while this milestone serves to highlight the opportunities available to all Americans it also grants significant power to a progressive Democrat. And while there are components of her 100 Hour Plan that even I can embrace I fear that her positions on taxation and immigration will leave America with a burden that far outweighs the benefits associated with her historic election.
