Barack Obama and John McCain Lead in Small Donations
by John Little on 14/12/2006Despite the recent Monday Night Football fueled Obamagasm McCain actually leads Obama by just a bit:
As of November 27th, Obama’s Hopefund raised more than two-and-a-half million dollars. One million of that came from donations of less than 200-dollars.
The Federal Election Commission says only Republican John McCain’s Straight Talk America fund raised more in small donations.
One fund-raiser described such small gifts as a “kind of unscientific poll” that suggests a candidate has genuine public support.
Fundraising hasn’t started in earnest just yet but Hillary Clinton leads them both in total funds on hand:
Mrs. Clinton of New York continues to lead the field of Democrats with $14 million cash on hand after spending $35.9 million on her successful re-election campaign.
The fundraising numbers for Republicans are much smaller. Mr. McCain, of Arizona, leads the pack with more than $1.1 million in the bank.
