Cherie Blair’s Nude Portrait
by John Little on 11/12/2006It’s a minor story in the UK. But I can’t imagine what would happen here if we discovered that Laura Bush sat for some Andy Warhol nudes in college. More on the painting, which I wouldn’t even classify NSFW, at the Daily Mail:
It was 1978, two years before her marriage to Tony Blair, and she had been asked to pose by the late artist Euan Uglow.
But rather than being ashamed of her naked image, close friends of Uglow say Mrs Blair felt privileged to model for him and was very proud of the painting.
It was, they say, her husband who proved to be a touch prudish about the almost life-sized picture and asked that it remain under lock and key.
She’s wearing a bit more these days.
