I’ve noticed a disturbing trend in the polls at ABCNews.com. The question on the home page, in at least a couple of recent incidents, is completely different from the poll question itself and is phrased in a manner that could lead many to vote for the very option they disagree with. Take a look at today’s front page poll question:

Is the call for a draft a political stunt? Hell yes it is. So if you’re in agreement you’ll click on that and scan for “yes” right? Well, clicking on the link pops up this poll

Now the poll’s questions reads “Should the draft return?” and your yes vote now means something entirely different. This could explain how the ever unpopular draft finds itself leading ABC’s poll.

Reinstating the draft may not be a good idea as long as those going to do the fighting are told the truth about why they are really going and have the opportunity to decline if they think it’s a crock, as in the case of Iraq. They should also be able to sue the government if they find out they they wer lied to about the reason, just as any busniess would be had they lied to you about their product. Then, on top of this, choosing those being drafted should start from the wealthiest and go down to the poorest given that the wealthiest prfit most from the system which they wish to be protected. So, if these conditions are all met, plus a few others I can imagine, then I’d be for the draft. Any takers?kb
Correction in first sentence: May not be such a “bad” idea…..kb
A draft would ensure that America (all of America) is either in support of a war or not. If there’s an equal opportunity to serve it will make folks think long and hard about committing boots on the ground. Also think we should have a war tax to make up the shortfalls in our military budget. If the draft goes through, the war tax would put a face along side the money we’d pay. On the other hand, if we (America) won’t support a draft…what’s the point in this war?
