More insight into the ground war:
Israeli troops backed by artillery and tank fire seized control of a Lebanese border village on Saturday and recovered weapons from another town in Hezbollah territory, military officials said.
After Maroun al-Ras was taken, Israeli soldiers in armored personal carriers traveled to and from the village, but there was no large-scale movement. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information, said several soldiers were involved in the raid.
They did not say what sort of resistance the troops encountered, but at one point Israel bombed an Hezbollah outpost near the village.
A Hezbollah attack on an IDF base is getting a lot of media attention as the news breaks but the event isn’t as significant as it sounds:
Hezbollah guerrillas fired at an Israeli military base near the Lebanese border on Saturday, wounding one soldier, the military said.
The attack occurred at the Nurit army base near the Israeli town of Avivim, a spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces said.
Military sources said the attack apparently involved sniper fire from guerrillas on the Lebanese side of the border. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity since the attack was still being investigated.

Maroun Al-Ras is only the beginning. The Israelis are not stopping until the Litani River is reached & the countryside south of it is pacified. By whatever means neccessary.
Shimon Perez attributes the high collateral damage in Lebanon to Hezbollah keeping weapons in homes. No kidding! If the U. S. would give Hezbollah the same help as it gives Israel, Hezbollah could build decent bases to keep it weapons. Israel fighting Hezbollah is akin to cowboys fighting Indians. As Hezbollah has no air force, it may be more like a turkey shoot.
