Olmert/IDF Prepare Israeli Troops for Extended War
by John Little on 20/07/2006The mixed signals concerning the length of this war continue:
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that the IDF has “as much time as you want to complete the mission.”In a memo distributed to IDF soldiers on Thursday, Halutz warned of the need to prepare for an extended military campaign.
“The State of Israel is in the midst of fighting an extremist Islamic terrorist organization that denies our right to exist, and is operating under the auspices of Iran and Syria, which aim to threaten Israel’s sovereignty,” the chief of staff wrote.
“We hit and will hit Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon, as well as the organization’s rockets, while hitting Palestinian terror.”
This is bad news if your Hezbollah and trying to wait this out in a bunker (which is probably why it’s in the news) but Israel will face some significant external pressure if this war last much longer.
