I apologize for the break in updates last night. I was sitting down to blog last night’s event in and around Israel when I was kindapped, taken to a strange location, and forced to drink Grey Goose martinis. Actually, we started off the night at Leon’s Lounge which is a famous Houston dive that used to be cool but has now been reworked to look like a Mexican whorehouse. Leon’s is still weird just not in a good way. We didn’t stay long
I was still feeling guilty about not updating the blog until we walked around the corner and into Red Star:
A waitress in a fur bikini stands behind a cast-iron beer tub backed by an image of a Russian peasant. The first floor martini lounge is a luxurious reproduction of the tsar’s palace decorated with Bolshevik propaganda. Siberia, once the land of ice and punishment, has been reincarnated as a second floor VIP room. Covered in textured blue glass and featuring a floor filled with gelatinous liquid, this icy alcove is one of the more creatively designed VIP rooms in town. The dance floor is crowded, much to the delight of the frenetic dancers.
The review, somehow, fails to mention that the place is packed with dozens of women possesing the genetics, fashion sense, and moral compass of Paris Hilton. I stopped feeling guilty before I ordered my first drink.
I’m not feeling up to much of anything but blogging today so there will be updates. The drinks at Red Star were great but Leon’s doesn’t have a top shelf. The vodka they served left me feeling like I spent the weekend huffing paint with Russian street kids.
