Breaking, with live video, at NBC5 Chicago:
Fire crews and ambulances are responding to the scene at this hour. Passengers are being evacuated from underground near Clinton and Fulton.
It’s unlikely that this incident is anything other than an accident but given events in India today it’s worth watching.

CBS 2′s Kris Habermehl was overhead in Chopper 2 at Clinton and Fulton in the near West Loop as Blue Line riders were being evacuated from the underground tunnels and coming out of a hatch located at street level. It was one of several locations where people were being evacuated.It is not known how many people may have been injured, though reports indicated some were hurt. A total of 15 ambulances are stationed at Clinton and Fulton, Grand and Milwaukee and 124 W. Lake.
Many riders emerged from the tunnels with apparent respiratory distress and soot and dirt staining their clothing.
Latest reports indicate no fire but lots of smoke. Smoke in a tunnel is still obviouslly very dangerous. There are injuries, 10 or more, being reported but this story is still developing.
