Israel Targeting Hamas – Going Deeper Into Gaza
by John Little on 5/07/2006The Kassam rocket attack on Ashkelon and other developments has led the Security cabinet to approve an operation that will target the “Hamas terrorist infrastructure.”:
“There will be steps taken and they will be very serious,” said Cabinet Minister Isaac Herzog, who refused to elaborate on the military’s plans.“There is a very broad operation here. It will continue.”
Israel’s objectives in the operation were defined during the meeting as targeting Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank, in particular hitting its terrorism infrastructure, and restricting the movements of terrorists by tightening the division of the Gaza Strip by IDF ground forces.
I don’t think we’ll see top level Hamas folks targeted yet. There’s still more bluff than bite here.
