Ubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS Released

by John Little on 2/06/2006

It’s not perfect yet but it’s getting close. 6.06 has a very polished feel to it. You can see a screenshot of my 6.06 desktop here. Installation was painless. You can see screenshots of the process if you’re curious.

Configuration was also easy. I used Automatix instead of taking the usual manual configuration route and can strongly recommend it.

I almost didn’t upgrade this morning. I have friends in town and a show tonight and you never know how long something like this can take. The whole process, including backing up my files, installing Ubuntu from scratch, adding additional software, and configuration took less than three hours. Oh yeah, I also installed a new DVD/CD burner. Not bad.

You can get Ubuntu for free here.
